Fetishes is a series of portraits where memory and the objects that evoke it intertwine with botanical elements, much like nature reclaiming abandoned architecture. The works pay tribute to the natural world while drawing from my own personal history, reimagining everyday objects from my Moldovan childhood by merging them with vegetal forms. Just as dreams reorganize information to structure memory, these “fetishes” are wrapped in biophilia as a strategy to interpret the past.
Memories and the objects that embody them, take on an anthropomorphic presence, infused with a playful, ironic tone that also echoes the visual language of emojis and the kitsch aesthetic. Displayed as panels, the works move away from the specificity of detail or the precision of recollection: they lighten their weight and instead open a broader perspective, inviting reflection on how memory, objects, and nature shape our sense of self. The familiar becomes collective and timeless stories we return to again and again, retold in new ways.
